Ukrainian Association Cabramatta–Fairfield

The Ukrainian Association of Cabramatta - Fairfield is and has been an important and vital part of the Ukrainian community since its establishment in 1952 by fourteen Ukrainians living in the local area who saw a need for an organisation which would assist Ukrainians to settle happily in Australia. Several years later the Ukrainian Associations of Cabramatta and Fairfield united and became one organisation.

Since its establishment, members and Management Committees of the Association (Hromada ) have provided continuous assistance to Ukrainians in the local area and also supporting other Ukrainian and non -Ukrainian organisations. Through charitable, cultural, financial sporting and professional avenues they have promoted a Ukrainian identity and provided a hub for many activities, strengthening social and spiritual interactions.

At the beginning, the priorities for the founding members were to build a hall where people could meet , establish a Saturday school for children so that they could maintain their Ukrainian language, be active in the local and wider communities and participate in multicultural festivals. The Hromada also became involved in state and national Ukrainian organisations.

A hall was built and then extended with a new and bigger hall on the current premises. Membership grew, and the Hromada was acknowledged and it still is as an important and active centre of Ukrainian life.

Although membership is smaller due to people moving out of the area or passing away, the Hromada continues to be strong, active and supportive of the Ukrainian Council of NSW with funding and also holding lunches throughout the year where members, families, friends and guests enjoy celebrating special events, Ukrainian culture and foods.
