Under the Artistic Direction of Merited Artist of Ukraine, Melanie Moravski Dechnicz, Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company is honoured to represent the Ukrainian culture. It is their mission to advocate for Ukraine and the Ukrainian culture through dance, to our fellow Australians and the world.

Lehenda has grown from a small ensemble to a renowned dance company, recognised both nationally and internationally. The company's repertoire spans a wide range of traditional Ukrainian dances, each characterized by intricate footwork, dynamic energy, and elaborate costumes that reflect the diverse regions of Ukraine.

Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company is made up of over 30 dancers who perform with pride, passion and embody the true soul of Ukrainian culture. The strength, beauty and grace of Ukrainian Cossack dancers, combine to give you the contagious energy, spectacle, colour and spirit that is, Ukrainian dance!

In their 12 year history Lehenda has wowed audiences across Australia, Canada and the USA. Lehenda perform regularly at many mainstream festivals, events and private functions and have also toured extensively with 4 full length productions: KAZKA – fairytale of love, loss ... and a mysterious blue fox, LEGEND – Stories of a Nation, RAZOM – Two Nations one Spirit, LEHENDA – Ukrainian Soul, Australian Soil and Dance Film ‘Pryvit’ (2021). Recently Lehenda won ‘Best Dance Film’ at the Toronto Experimental Dance and Music Film Festival for their film ‘Melbourne Hopak’.

They will continue their mission of cultural preservation and artistic innovation. With a strong foundation built on passion, talent, and community support, Lehenda is poised to inspire future generations and keep the spirit of Ukrainian dance alive for many years to come.
